May Blooms

I thought it might be time for a stroll around the garden. Here is what is going on this May.

The Cigar plant is producing tons of cigar shaped blooms.

It is doing well and appears to be establishing a root system.

I recently potted up these succulents.

The Blackfoot Daisy is blooming like crazy.

I planted the Black and Blue Sage next to the Knockout Roses. I like the pink and blue combo. I'm trying to work around the existing landscaping, which means trying to cover up the spindly Nandina stalks.

The FBA's ( Future Butterflies of America ) are making a meal out of the Passionflower Vine.

There are a lot of chrysalis around. Is it just me or does there appear to be butterfly eggs on the chrysalis? I think they are starting to lay eggs on top of the eggs!

This was a recent purchase. I'm hoping this Rudbeckia Tiger Eye will perform well.

The Coral Vine is starting to put out some blooms.

The two pots in the front yard are doing well. The potato vine is making a come back.

The Firecracker Fern is still going to town.

Wilson is keeping a watchful eye over the garden.

    1. Thanks Lucy! The Black and Blue is probably one of my favorite plants. Love seeing that deep blue color in the garden. I'm so glad we are getting some rain. Yay!

  4. Wow, your fire cracker fern is really taking off. I think mine takes a little longer to bloom because it gets too much shade. Do you have yours in full sun?

  5. It is in the baking hot sun and loves it! It took it a couple of years to get established, but now it is doing great.

  6. Everything is looking wonderful in your garden. I love the sweep of blackfoot daisies; they are so cheery! My coral vine is slow to grow. I wonder if it doesn't have sufficient drainage. I know it's hot and dry enough where it's planted! I might try digging it up and adding some dg to see if that helps...

    1. My coral vine gets morning sun. It has lots of leaves, but very little blooms. I think this vine wants to be in the sun. I think you are right about the drainage.

  7. oooh Steph, that black and blue sage is nice. i have a thing for really dark purples, and that looks like it gets to a nice height. Have you ever seen the yellow firecracker fern? really cute light yellow, almost cream colored blooms.
What a fabulous May it's been for us in TX so far!

    1. Thanks Suzie. The blooms are beautiful on the B&B. It does get a nice height as well and the hummers like it. Oh no... if I see the yellow firecracker fern I'll want it too:) Yes, Spring has been wonderful here in TX.

  8. Nice blog! You left a comment and question about the Bee Balm, Peter's Purple (Monarda 'Peter's Purple' Bee Balm). I bought it at Calloway's 2011. It is awesome in appearance and from what I read does not have some of the disease, specifically powdery mildew, problems. The scent is not as agreeable as other monarda's I have grown but I would buy more of these in a heartbeat.
