Thanks to some much needed rain in the Spring, the grass is still green and the flowers are blooming. This 'Big Red Sage' was just planted this Spring. The blooms are a fuchsia color and not really red. The plant is very tall and the hummingbirds love it. I'll probably be planting some more next year.
The coral vine is blooming. We planted it last year. The hummingbirds are all over it!
The 'Juliet' tomatoes are the only tomatoes that we planted that are producing fruit.
The FBA's (Future Butterflies of America) are at it again.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 100's this week. I noticed I'm filling up the hummingbird feeder more than usual.
Stay Cool!
I'm not looking forward to these 100 degree days. Thank goodness for plants like the Big Red Sage that can take the heat. I notice some FBA's (love that acronymn) yesterday. I have three large swallowtail caterpillars on some bolting parsley. They are very striking FBA's.
ReplyDeleteAlly, I'm thinking of making a huge pot of Lemonade for this up coming week. I get SO thirsty in this heat! The Big Red Sage does love the heat. I'm thinking it will perform better next year after it has some time to get established. I wish I had some FBA's on my parsley, however my parsley is burnt to a crisp.
DeleteYay for the FBAs! Tried to prepare some of my plants this morning for the upcoming onslaught of 100+ degree days. There is a Big Red Sage at the master gardener's demo garden and it's beautiful right now. I know you're enjoying yours too!
ReplyDeleteCat, Very smart that you prepping your plants for the heat. They are going to need some extra TLC for this weather. I know I would if I had to stay outside in 100 heat all day, ha! I am loving my Big Red Sage. I first spotted this plant at ARE. I have discovered so many fabulous plants in their gardens. It will be tough to see them go.
ReplyDeleteYour plants are looking lovely. Love those FBA's, they've made a mess of some of my favorite plants but I'm not complaining.
ReplyDeleteTime to work on indoor projects for a while!
Thanks Shirley. My passionflower is stripped of almost all its leaves, but the butterflies keep coming to it.
DeletePS I agree, better to stay inside! Stay cool:)
