We finally got some much needed rain last night. Thank goodness we were spared the hail storm. I'm grateful because don't think the small tomato plants could take it. I'm hoping April will bring more showers.

Pretty blooms and that rain last night was wonderful. Your lavender is well ahead of mine. Mine gets some late shade so that must be it.

Thanks Shirley. The lavender bed is in full sun. I've tried different varieties, but I've had the most success with the Spanish Lavender.

Hi Steph...Your blooms are fabulous!! The Lavender does look like bunny ears!! I would love to grow Lavender...do you have yours in the ground, a pot or a raised bed? Do you do anything special to it? What kind of soil do you grow yours in? I really want to try it this year. Thanks, in advance, for the advice!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christy. I have two varieties of Lavender planted in the ground. The lavender bed gets full sun. From my experience and from what I've read is that Lavender needs good drainage. I've heard of people supplementing the soil with sand or gravel to ensure that the soil does drain. We lost 3 plants last year, probably due to drainage issues and rain (it actually rained quite a bit last summer). It seems that certain varieties do better in different climates. I think our Spanish lavender does well because it can take a little more humidity. I'm not sure how it responds to cold weather since we have few freezes in TX. Hope that helps:)
DeleteThanks Steph...I think I will try putting some in a pot first. Then I'll put the pot out in the flower bed by a path so when I walk past I will smell it. Then in winter I can bring the pot inside. I really appreciate your help!

DeleteThe rain was great! We got hail here at the house but our tomato plants seemed to be alright luckily. The nursery did not get any hail which was great but did get lots of much needed and welcomed rain. It was wonderful!!!! Looks like today will be drizzling for the remainder of the day. Your Spanish Lavender looks happy- love that stuff- great blooms and the bees and butterflies love it!
ReplyDeleteThe rain is wonderful! You can only water so much and then you need a little help from mother nature:) Glad that you didn't have to deal with the hail at the nursery.
DeleteThe Lavender is buzzing with bees and butterflies. I even spotted a hummingbird visiting it.
