The Magestic Monarch

I've seen four Monarchs this season in our garden.

They are so beautiful to watch fluttering around the garden.

They are much larger than the Queen butterflies which look similar to Monarchs.

I had the pleasure of watching this female deposit eggs on some of the Milkweed.

You can see her tilt her abdomen towards the leaf.

They are such majestic creatures.

  1. Beautiful! I'm a bit jealous since we haven't seen any yet. I did add more milkweed a couple weeks ago so we're ready. Send a few down this way please!

    1. Thank you Shirley. I just spotted one in my garden right now. I noticed they were absent during the heavy down pour. We just need a little "cool" front for some to come South. I'll point them in your direction:)

    3. Yay! I know they will enjoy your beautiful garden. I'm so glad I can help them out, According to the http://www.texasbutterflyranch.com/ it looks like it is going to be one of the worst years for this gorgeous migrating butterfly. So sad:(

  2. I love the fluidity and movement of that last shot, Steph! Great job capturing such a cool moment. They are captivating. I always feel so blessed when I see one flitting about the milkweed...like getting to observe a little miracle.

    1. Thank you Cat. I realize the pic is bit blurry, but I still love it. I agree... they are captivating. I did feel like I was observing a little miracle watching her lay her eggs. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed those eggs hatch out and the caterpillars make it through the metamorphosis phase to complete their journey.
