The not so unlimited salad

The Winter salads are coming to an end. The lettuce is bolting and becoming bitter. I have some Arugula that is still growing, however most of the space in the garden has been cleared for Mater planting time.

  1. Might not be tasty but it's pretty. And the butterflies like the flowers.

Thanks for your Hill Country Mysteries comment, Steph. As you know, writers love knowing someone is reading them.

    1. We have been so spoiled with being able to pick lettuce from the garden, now we will actually have to buy it from the grocery store;)

PS I always look forward to your stories in the paper. Nice to know the writer is a local blogger.

  3. One of the ironies of Texas is that lettuce grows best in the winter when I feel like eating soup and not in the summer when I feel like eating salad. Someone suggested lettuce soup to me once, but I've never been brave enough to try it.

    1. So true! It is kinda strange to eat salads when it is cold outside. The lettuce soup is not a bad idea. I've seen recipes for it before, but like you, I've never tried it.

  4. Nicely done on your hero image Was wondering if you've ever used dandelion, whether cultivated or gleaned from the yard? Thought you'd very much enjoy this link re a local gardener:

    1. I have used dandelion before for juicing, however it was not from my garden. There are many health benefits from this weed/plant. Thank you for the link to the article. I appreciate you stopping by.

  5. Your greens are beautiful. I just put some lettuce into the garden. It's probably just about ready to start harvesting a few leaves. I can't wait.

  6. That is a pretty shot.
I never got my winter garden planted. Just lately put in some cool weather things. We'll see if the weather behaves itself.
Thanks for the arugula tip. Think I'll try some.

    1. Thank you! Arugula is suppose to be very easy to grow from seed, however I prefer the transplants. Hopefully, the weather will behave itself, it would be nice to have an actual Spring here in TX;)

  7. Last year I planted lettuce and ate on them all winter. It was wonderful. I didn't plant them this year, and I've missed them. I've never tried arugula before, but hopefully I'll do better next year and plant lettuce - and arugula!

    1. Isn't it wonderful to have fresh lettuce from the garden? I have never had any problems or pests with growing lettuce/arugula except for the occasional flea beettles on the arugula. Thanks for dropping by:)
