Hawk Watch 2011

I've had the pleasure of observing this majestic hawk from my own backyard. This particular hawk is a Broad-winged Hawk. In the early morning and evening, I can hear it's distinct call, which sounds similar to "teehee". Thanks to the hawk, the rodent population is under control... I guess this is nature's exterminator. These birds are migratory, so he will be leaving in the fall or winter. I'm sure going to miss him and hope he will be back next year. To get more information on the Broad-wing hawk, click here.

  1. We had one of these who used to come to one of our birdbaths. Haven't seen one in a while. But, hawks are out there. We see them fly over and hear them often.
    Stay safe...

  2. Linda - I did see one in our birdbath as well. Looked like he was using it as a wading pool.

  3. Wow. It is a magnificent bird. I once had a Cooper's Hawk fly under our patio into the window. I think it was chasing a sparrow. It was so sad.

  5. Kathleen - He was wonderful to watch. I'm hoping they will come back next year and nest in the same spot.
